J.R.R. Tolkien and his works. J.R.R. Tolkien was born in Bloemfontein, South Africa, but spent the majority of his life in Oxford, England - first as a student, then as a don (professor) at the University. He married Edith Bratt in 1916, and they had four children, all of whom shared his middle name, 'Reuel', including his daughter Priscilla.

J.R.R. Tolkien n’a pas pu publier Le Silmarillion de son vivant, car il a évolué avec lui. Il a donc laissé à son fils Christopher le soin de faire paraître cette oeuvre à partir de nombreux manuscrits et de rendre publiable la grande vision de son père, terminant ainsi l’oeuvre littéraire de toute une vie.
John Ronald Reuel Tolkien, conocido popularmente como J.R.R. Tolkien, nació el 3 de enero de 1892 en la ciudad de Bloemfontein, en el Estado Libre de Orange (actual Sudáfrica). Sus padres eran Arthur Reuel Tolkien y Mabel Suffield. Por una tradición familiar, el pequeño recibió el mismo nombre que el de su abuelo paterno, John.
