Thirteen British Colonies. The British began their invasion of North America in 1587 when the Plymouth Company established a settlement that they dubbed Roanoke in present-day Virginia. This first settlement failed mysteriously and in 1606, the London Company sent a ship full of people to establish a presence.
The original Thirteen Colonies were British colonies in an east shore about North Usa, stretching from New England to the northern border of the Floridas. He was those colonies that came together to form this United States. By the 1700s, the British government controlled its colonies under mercantilism, a system that regulated the balance of trade in favor of Britain.
