Hace 2 días · Aquinas’ body was kept in Fossanova Abbey until 1369, when his relics were moved to Toulouse, France, where the Order of Preachers was founded and where Aquinas’ tomb can be venerated today in the Church of the Jacobins. The skull in Priverno is one of two skulls currently claimed by Church officials as the skull of St. Thomas Aquinas.

Fossanova Abbey is an ancient Cistercian abbey located in the municipality of Priverno, in the Lazio region, Italy. Founded in 1135, the abbey is one of the most important examples of Cistercian architecture in Italy. The abbey was built under the guidance of Saint Bernard of Clairvaux, one of the main protagonists of the Cistercian Order.
Fu in questo tempo che l’abbazia di Fossanova venne a perdere anche l’abate per essere retta da un semplice priore. L’unione quindi non risultò felice tanto che, proprio per opera dell’abate di Fossanova Edmondo Casconi, le abbazie dell’Italia centrale ottennero, nel 1762, la rescissione e ricostituirono la Congregazione Romana.
