Valdina Ranch and Lodge is a beautiful 600-acre ranch located just 30 minutes northwest of Hondo, Texas. In the 1940s, Valdina Ranch operated as a horse ranch and racing arena. Many of the original features are still on the ranch including several small horse barns, a full size racetrack and stables, offices, houses, and the infamous speakeasy with an escape tunnel out to the Seco Creek.

It might have been too much for him because later he became a writer. Among the many, many books penned by L’Amour, he wrote one called “Hondo”.
