It makes sense, with Imagine, John was trying to distance himself from those Beatles days, finding himself , as John Lennon, the solo artist, not joined at the hip Lennon/McCartney. "I don't believe in Beatles..." Imagine sessions with John talking Paul here at around the 1:50 mark.
