Una delle principali tematiche che Hitchcock vuole trattare è quella dell’intreccio fra l’appassionante storia d’amore (fra Elena e Devlin) e il dovere nei confronti della nazione, amore e lavoro si ostacolano a vicenda fino all’ultima scena del film.
