If the climber falls, the belayer locks off the rope, usually with a belay device, and often lowers the climber back to terra firma at the end of the climb. Anyone who can talk, listen, stand, and chew gum simultaneously can do it. Like any skill, however, belaying requires practice.
22 de feb. de 2020 · To feed slack out, the lead belayer begins in the ‘brake position’ and does the following: Holds the ‘climber’s’ end of the rope with the guide hand and the brake strand with the brake hand. Feeds the rope upward with the guide hand while simultaneously feeding the rope through the belay device using the brake hand.

The PBUS method is a simple, effective way to do this: Pull: Pull your guide hand downward while also lifting the firmly gripped brake rope out and up. This takes in slack as your partner climbs. Brake: When the guide hand nears the belay device, flip the brake rope back down to lock the rope in the device.
