Albert I, Duke of Lower Bavaria (German: Albrecht; 25 July 1336 – 13 December 1404), was a feudal ruler of the counties of Holland, Hainaut, and Zeeland in the Low Countries. Additionally, he held a portion of the Bavarian province of Straubing , his Bavarian ducal line's appanage and seat, Lower Bavaria .

His great-grandfather King Ludwig III was the last ruling monarch of Bavaria, being deposed in 1918.
Welf was the oldest son of Welf I, Duke of Bavaria, and his wife Judith of Flanders. In 1088 [4] or 1089, [5] when Welf was still a teenager, he married Matilda of Tuscany , [3] who was more than twenty years older than him, in order to strengthen the relation between his family and the pope during the Investiture Controversy between king and pope. Amalia married on 21 March 1452 in Landshut Duke Louis IX of Bavaria-Landshut (1417–1479). Like the wedding of the son later, this marriage was celebrated with splendour. 22,000 guests were invited. In 1463, Amalia received Burghausen Castle from her husband as a residence. He also prescribed a comprehensive and rigorous Court discipline.

He was the second son of Duke Henry IX of Bavaria and Wulfhilde, daughter of Duke Magnus of Saxony. He was thus not only a member of the Welf family, but, what was quite important, also senior heir of the Saxon House of Billung. Henry came of age in 1123, in 1126 his father retired to Weingarten Abbey where he and his wife died shortly afterwards.
He succeeded as Duke of Lower Bavaria from 1310 until 1334 as co-regent of his brother Henry XIV and his cousin Henry XV.
