Sarsfield, Patrick. Sarsfield, Patrick (d. 1693), soldier, lst earl of Lucan , was the second son, and youngest of five children, of Patrick Sarsfield and his wife Anne, daughter of Rory O'More (qv), a leader of the 1641 rebellion. The Sarsfields were an Old English family who had estates at Lucan, Co. Dublin, and Tully, Co. Kildare.

Patrick Sarsfield was born in 1630 in Lucan, Co. Dublin. His family were well off and owned a large estate. His father was a prominent supporter of the Irish cause in the Irish Confederate Wars. It is hardly surprising then that his son would follow in his footsteps to become a military leader of the Jacobite forces in Ireland during the Williamite War.
