Sri Aurobindo var en indisk guru, yogi, dikter og nasjonalistleder.Aurobindo Ghosh var født i Kolkata i 1872 og utdannet i Storbritannia. Han var en kort tid aktiv i nasjonalistbevegelsen i Bengal, fra 1902, utgav flere tidsskrifter og var en av de første til å agitere for svadeshi (bruk av indiske varer, boikott av engelsk).I 1907 ble Aurobindo fengslet.
