Retrato de don Carlos (1545-1568), príncipe de Austria, heredero al trono español, hijo de Felipe II (1556-1598) y de su primera esposa y prima Manuela de Portugal (1528-1545). Esta obra idealiza el rostro y cuerpo del Príncipe, quien en realidad nació con graves discapacidades físicas y psicológicas producto, probablemente, de la consanguineidad de sus padres.

25 de ene. de 2012 · Isabel Clara Eugenia de Austria nació el 12 de agosto, en 1566, en Segovia. Su padre, Felipe II, se llenó de alegría cuando ella nació y dijo que él era más feliz que si hubiera sido un chico, porque Felipe tenía ya un heredero masculino, Don Carlos, de su primer matrimonio con la princesa María de Portugal.
The marriage of Isabel Clara Eugenia (1566–1633) to Albert of Austria and her designation as sovereign princess of the Low Countries marked a turning point in the depiction of her public image. Her change of social status from single to married woman and her assumption of political responsibilities brought with them a new model of portrait.
Also, the study of the political scenario and how it affected Isabel Clara is very important: especially the matters concerned with marriage negotiations and dynastic plans. As a final conclusion the “construction” of the Infanta: how their contemporaries perceived her, and how the memory of her has been transmited to the present age.
