21 de feb. de 2021 · Saskia van Uylenburgh (1612-1642) was the daughter of the burgomaster of Leeuwarden and a cousin of Hendrick van Uylenburgh, an influential art dealer with whom Rembrandt worked in the years 1631-1635. Marriage with Saskia brought him a large dowry and elevated his social status.

Saskia in a Straw Hat, 1633 by Rembrandt. While working with van Uylenburgh, Rembrandt was introduced to his close relative Saskia van Uylenburgh (1612-42). Her father had been burgomaster in the province of Friesland and was one of the founders of the second university of the Netherlands, in Franeker in 1585.
