25 de sept. de 2018 · In 1914 McAdoo was married for the second time—he had married Sarah Hazelhurst Fleming in 1885—in the White House to Wilson’s daughter, Eleanor. President Wilson appointed McAdoo secretary of the treasury, where he oversaw the formation of the Federal Reserve System. He served as director general of railways during World War I.

McAdoo was soon courting President Wilson’s daughter Eleanor and the two were married in a ceremony held at the White House in 1914. The groom was then fifty-one years old and the bride a mere twenty-five and McAdoo offered to resign from the Cabinet, but Wilson demurred.

McAdoo worked on Wilson's successful 1912 presidential campaign. As Treasury Secretary, McAdoo presided over the establishment of the Federal Reserve System. Nell first met McAdoo at the governor’s mansion in New Jersey when her father was the occupant of that home. McAdoo was a guest of the Wilsons.
