  3. The Braemar Royal Highland Society was established well over 200 years ago as the ‘Braemar Wright Society’. Granted Royal status by Queen Victoria in 1866, they were traditionally the organisers of the Braemar Gathering. Eventually, the Society established the Braemar Royal Highland Charity (BRHC) in 2002.

  4. 24 de ago. de 2020 · The Braemar Gathering has a history dating back over 900 years, but its modern roots can be traced to the Victorians who founded the Royal Highland Society in 1832. Due to Balmoral Castle’s close proximity, Queen Victoria became the society’s patron in 1848, and to this day, members of the royal family attend the games each year.

  5. Fortunately we had perfect weather for the Braemar gathering, where the Scottish Highland games take place. It’s in a large, open stadium, mostly uncovered. The events are the traditional Scottish “heavy” events, such as the caber toss, the stone throw and flinging a 55 weight over a bar about 16 feet high.

  6. A cohesive and supportive community of around 450 inhabitants, the village is known around the world for the annual Braemar Gathering. The event attracts around 15,000 people on the first Saturday in September each year and has the patronage of Her Majesty the Queen. Almost all Braemar is now a conservation area.

  7. Pay at the gate on the day to enter the Gathering. Local Piping - entries on the day. Piping is in the Society’s roots and continues to be strongly supported. The Solo Piping competitions start at 9.30am and run throughout the day. There are Senior (18+) and Junior (U18) categories, and local competitors are welcome.
