Biography. Daughter of Thomas Skerrett, a London staymaker, became Robert Walpole's mistress in 1724, and bore him two daughters; they married after his first wife died in 1737, but Maria died in 1738 following a miscarriage.

Mis-identified as such in the print version of Neil Jaffares's Dictionary of Pastellists before 1800.
