A marble version of the memorial, created by François Gaspard Adam and Sigisbert François Michel, was first erected on nearby Wilhelmplatz (which now longer exists) in 1769.

Kurt Christoph Graf von Schwerin (26 October 1684 - 6 May 1757) was a Prussia n "Generalfeldmarschall", one of the leading commanders under Frederick the Great. Biography He was born in Löwitz , Pomerania , and at an early age entered the Dutch army, with which he served at the Schellenberg and at Blenheim .
Mai 1945 von polnischen Zwangsarbeitern niedergebrannte Schloss war zwischen 1720 und 1733 von Curd Christoph von Schwerin errichtet worden. Als König Friedrich Wilhelm I. (1688–1740) den prächtigen Bau im Jahre 1734 zu Gesicht bekam, erschien ihm der Ortsname Kummerow, denn so hieß Schwerinsburg vorher, als zu widerspruchsvoll, daher verkündete er: „Von Kummer ist nicht viel zu sehen!
