In early sequences in Visages Villages (Faces, Places, 2017), interspersed amongst scenes of their travels throughout France and images from their eclectic catalogues of work, Agnès Varda, street artist JR and Varda’s cat, Mimi are filmed sharing a small meal around a comfortable kitchen table.
Agnes Varda and JR have things in common: their passion for images in general and more particularly questionning the places where they are showed, how they are shared, exposed. Agnès chose cinema. (Included is a funny scene at a disco, where a spry Varda—her unusual bowl haircut totally white on top, with a thick ring of vermillion at bottom, a kind of tonsure—dances up a storm at the other end of the floor from JR.)
