The establishment of the Irish Free State in 1922 led to the remainder later being renamed the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in 1927.

However there was an Irish king who claimed the land as his own. Hugh invited this king to parley but it went poorly and it ended in the Irish being slaughtered.
