George married his cousin Sophia Dorothea of Celle in 1682, but in 1694, accusing her of infidelity , he divorced her and imprisoned her in the castle of Ahlden, where she died 32 years later.

The marriage was very happy and Antoinette was the mother of eight sons and six daughters. After 1735, Duke of Brunswick-Lüneburg her father died and her husband succeeded him.
