Hace 3 días · In 1515–16 Sir Christopher More acquired the rights of John Twistleton, goldsmith, of London, probably a mortgagee; and before 1532–3 he had evidently purchased this moiety in addition to the other (vide infra), for William son of Humphrey Sidney then released all his rights to him.
Hace 3 días · It remained in the hands of the prior and convent until the time of the Dissolution, and was granted in 1541 to Sir William Sidney; from him it passed to his son Henry, who held it in 1564. (fn. 13) Sir Henry was succeeded by his son, the famous Sir Philip Sidney, who married Frances daughter of Sir Francis Walsingham; and their only daughter, Elizabeth, married Roger earl of Rutland.

Sir William Sidney, who served as Lord Chamberlain to Henry VIII, oversaw significant renovations in the 16th century, while Robert Sidney, 1st Earl of Leicester, further expanded the estate in the early 17th century.
27 de may. de 2024 · In the two semicircular arched recesses at the back are inscriptions recording that Sir William Dormer married first Mary daughter of Sir William Sidney, and secondly Dorothy daughter of Anthony Catesby, and died in 1575. Dorothy his widow, who erected the monument in 1590, afterwards married Sir William Pelham, and died in 1613.
