Charles Lanrezac died on 18 January 1925. His tomb at Montmartre cemetery bears the inscription: "A celui qui, en août 1914, sauva la France" (To the man who saved France in August 1914). In the highest form of rehabilitation and national recognition, General Lanrezac’s remains were transferred to the Invalides in 1933.
