Qutuz was assassinated by a fellow Mamluk leader, Baibars, on the triumphant return journey to Cairo. Although Qutuz's reign was short, he is known as one of the most popular Mamluk sultans in the Islamic world and holds a high position in Islamic history. His name Qutuz means 'Vicious beast'.

Como reacción al avance mongol, en diciembre de 1259, en Egipto, Qutuz, jefe mameluco maduro y enérgico, derrocó al joven sultán al-Mansur Nur al-Din Ali y se aprestó a combatir la inminente invasión mongola.
Dejó solo una pequeña fuerza para mantener la presencia de los mongoles en el área. Al ver la oportunidad, Qutuz el mameluco invadió Palestina y se alió con otro líder mameluco, Baibars, para defender el Islam y liberar el Damasco ocupado por los mongoles y la mayor parte de Bilad al-Sham.

18 de feb. de 2018 · By 1260, when the Mongols began to threaten Egypt, the Bahri Dynasty was on its third Mamluk sultan, Saif ad-Din Qutuz. Ironically, Qutuz was Turkic (probably a Turkmen), and had become a Mamluk after he was captured and sold into enslavement by the Ilkhanate Mongols.
Short Description. Qutuz is the son of the sister of Jalaal Ad-Deen Khuwarizm Shaah, the famous Khuwarezmid king. He resisted the Tatars and emerged victorious over them twice. Sayf Ad-Deen Qutuz, May Allah have mercy upon him, is one of the greatest personalities in the history of Muslims.
