Edward of Middleham (Son) by Peter Hammond. Edward of Middleham, Prince of Wales was the only known legitimate child of Richard III and Anne Neville. He was born in Middleham probably some time between early 1473 (after his parents received the final dispensation for their marriage, about April 1472) and probably lived there all his life.

His legitimate father is Edward of Lancaster. Edward is a young boy with frail stature. He has brown eyes and brown hair in a bob cut He admires and loves Richard very much.
Edward died suddenly at Middleham Castle on 9 March 1484. The Croyland Chronicler wrote poignantly of Richard and Anne’s reaction to the news of his death: “You might have seen his father and mother in a state almost bordering on madness, by reason of their sudden grief.”. Edward’s death meant that the royal succession was not clear.
