While appearing in a college production in late 1932 he was seen by an MGM talent scout and offered a screen test. When he graduated in February, 1934 he signed a seven year contract with MGM for $35.00 a week (the lowest-paid actor in record) and his name was changed to Robert Taylor. A major new Hollywood name had been created.
