  3. John James Robert Manners, 7th Duke of Rutland. (1818-1906), Politician, First Commissioner of Works and MP for several constituencies. Sitter in 33 portraits. Manners entered parliament as a Tory MP in 1841. He was a leading figure in the Young England movement that was led by Benjamin Disraeli.

  4. Both these sons succeeded in turn to the dukedom, Lord John Manners succeeding his brother Charles Cecil John, the 6th duke (1815–1888), as 7th duke of Rutland in 1888. In 1891 he was made a knight of the Garter, being the tenth earl and the sixth duke of Rutland of the same creation to wear this illustrious order.
