  2. Frederick came to an arrangement with the new king of Bohemia and Hungary, Ladislaus II Jagiello, who had been accepted as ruler by the Estates of both countries. For mutual support an alliance and a contract were concluded that formed the basis for the devolving of the crowns of Bohemia and Hungary to the House of Habsburg, an event which took place in 1526.

He either fired or exiled the pagan officials in his mother’s court. Finally, he had his mother exiled to Budeč, where she spent the rest of her life.

  5. Frederick was born in Innsbruck, as at that time his father was governing in the stead of his relative, Duke Frederick IV of Tyrol, who was being held prisoner by Emperor Siegmund in Constance. After Frederick IV had been restored as ruler of Tyrol he also became the guardian of his nephew, the younger Frederick, following the death of Duke Ernst in 1424.

In 1613 he married Elizabeth Stuart, daughter of James VI and I, king of Scotland, England and Ireland. Frederick was a key figure in German politics but things changed dramatically when, in November 1619, he was crowned king of Bohemia.
