Magdalene was born on 23 February 1596 [1] as the fifth and youngest daughter of Count John VII 'the Middle' of Nassau-Siegen and his first wife, Countess Magdalene of Waldeck-Wildungen. [2] From 1622 Magdalene spent most of her time in Herford Abbey, where she held the office of deaconess since 1628.
