There are places of worship for Independents and Calvinistic Methodists. A National school was established in 1819, for the gratuitous instruction of poor children ; and a school-house was built with funds which had accumulated from the rectory during the period for which it was held by Dr. Hughes, under a dispensation.

The Leader of the House was Bonar Law (of the High School of Glasgow). The Chief of the General Staff was Sir Henry Wilson (educated at Marlborough College). The Archbishop of Canterbury was Randall Davidson (an alumni of Harrow School).

On his father's death in Pembrokeshire in 1864 his mother moved with her children to Llanystumdwy, to live with her brother, Richard Lloyd (1834 - 1917). Lloyd George was educated at the Llanystumdwy National School and passed the Preliminary Law Examination in 1877, taking his final with honours in 1884.
