Located on Hayman’s Green, the club has been carefully preserved by the Best family, and is currently being furnished to include hotel suites upstairs, while maintaining the original club downstairs. 2 de ene. de 2024 · History of the Casbah Coffee Club. The Casbah Coffee Club holds an enigmatic space in rock ‘n’ roll history. Opened on August 29, 1959, by Mona Best in the basement of her family home at 8 Hayman’s Green, it was more than just a hub for music; it was a springboard for The Beatles.
I was born in 1961. On Valentine’s day. The Beatles were in their infancy, too. They started playing clubs in Liverpool in 1959. Most historians point to The Cavern Club as the pub where the band got its start. But that’s not the whole story, I learned. In fact, it wasn’t a cavern, but a cellar where the magic started.
Best's mother, Mona Best (1924–1988), opened the Casbah Coffee Club in the cellar of the Bests' house in Liverpool. The Beatles (at the time known as the Quarrymen) played some of their first concerts at the club. The Beatles invited Best to join the band on 12 August 1960, on the eve of the group's first Hamburg season of club dates.
Fantastic experience, this is a must-do for any Beatles fan. Roag Best (Pete Best’s nephew) makes the story of the place come alive, he is just brilliant as the host. My 13 year old son and I loved it. Liverpool is a great city and you should really get to the Casbah Coffee Club when you visit.
