ENGELBRECHT (Engelbert) I, graaf van Nassau-Dillenburg, geb. vermoedelijk te Dillenburg omstreeks 1380, gest. te Breda 3 Mei 1443, derde zoon van graaf Johann I van Nassau-Dillenburg en Margaretha, gravin van der Marck.
Als derde zoon van een edelman is Engelbert I van Nassau voorbestemd voor een carrière in de kerk. Zijn lot verandert wanneer zijn twee oudere broers kinderloos overlijden. Als oudste levende zoon moet Engelbert zorgen voor het voortbestaan van zijn familielijn. Een schatrijke erfgename. In 1403 trouwt Engelbert met Johanna van Polanen.
Engelbert II of Nassau, Engelbrecht in Dutch, was count of Nassau and Vianden and lord of Breda, Lek, Diest, Roosendaal, Nispen and Wouw. He was a soldier and courtier, for some time leader of the Privy council of the Duchy of Burgundy and a significant patron of the arts.
