Joan, Lady of Wales was the only known illegitimate daughter of England's tyrannical King John, best remembered for his war with the English barons and his resistance to the 1215 Magna Carta. John was married twice, and he had five legitimate children.

18 de sept. de 2020 · I think this is a fantastic book for someone who needs an introduction to medieval Welsh royal lifestyle, the power of royal Welsh women, and of course, a meticulously detailed account of the life of Joan, Lady of Wales. 6 de dic. de 2020 · I’m not saying Joan Lady of Wales is perfect, but in placing Joan in her rightful place in history with as much nuance as possible it is a fascinating and I think important work. I have not set out to tell the story of Joan’s life in this review, Messer has done this much better than I can manage, but if you want to know more I’d highly recommend reading the book.
18 de dic. de 2023 · Joan, Lady of Wales died in 1237, probably in her mid-40s, at Aber Garth Celyn, the royal palace in Abergwyngregyn, on the northeast coast of Wales. She was buried in Llanfaes on the Isle of Anglesey in Wales, where Llywelyn founded the Llanfaes Friary in her memory which was destroyed in 1537 by King Henry VIII of England during the Dissolution of the Monasteries .
14 de ago. de 2020 · Joan, Lady of Wales The marriage of Joan and Llywelyn appears to have been a happy one, they had at least two children together, a daughter, Elen ferch Llywelyn (1207-1253), who was married firstly to John the Scot, Earl of Chester and secondly, Robert II de Quincy and a son, Dafydd ap Llywelyn (c. 1212-1246).
30 de sept. de 2020 · Joan, Lady of Wales has long needed her own biography, to bring her out from the shadows of the lives of her father, brother, husband and son – and this book does not disappoint. It is, quite simply, a beautifully-executed, fascinating and addictive read. Joan, Lady of Wales is available in hardback from Pen &Sword and Amazon.
