A lovely change. For once, Rumpole is constrained to two tales rather than the typical handful and it is a rather lovely change of pace. The audio quality is just a few marks off where it should be but the performance is sound. Recommend heartily. Rumpole's Return as it's meant to be heard, narrated by Robert Hardy.

John Mortimer's Horace Rumpole novels usually would have been better pared down into short stories. Rumpole's Return is an exception. The plot moves briskly along, the murder that is central to the case has some interesting twists, and the interplay between his secondary characters is relevant.

1 de ene. de 1980 · Only days after his peaceful return home, Rumpole’s wife shows up with all their luggage and the determination that it is her duty to be wherever he is. I think secretly, despite his bluster, he’s glad she’s back, but you don’t ever get that explicitly in the book, so I could be wrong.
