Elisabeth Dorothea of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg (8 January 1640 – 24 August 1709), was a German regent. She was Landgravine of Hesse-Darmstadt by marriage to Louis VI, Landgrave of Hesse-Darmstadt, and Regent of Hesse-Darmstadt during the minority of her son from 1678 to 1688.

Dorothea Maria of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg (12 February 1654 in Gotha – 17 June 1682 in Gotha), was a German princess member of the House of Wettin in the Ernestine branch of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg. She was the twelfth child and fourth daughter of Ernest I, Duke of Saxe-Gotha by his wife Elisabeth Sophie , the only daughter of John Philip, Duke of Saxe-Altenburg .
Finally, Elisabeth Sophie and Ernst's sons received most of Saxe-Altenburg inheritance, but a portion (a quarter of the original duchy of Saxe-Altenburg) passed to the Saxe-Weimar branch. Hence, the Ernestine line of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg was founded, which would exist until 1825.
Elisabeth Dorothea war die älteste Tochter des Herzogs Ernst des Frommen von Sachsen-Gotha (1601–1675) und dessen Ehefrau Elisabeth Sophia (1619–1680), Tochter des Herzogs Johann Philipp von Sachsen-Altenburg. Am 5. Dezember 1666 heiratete sie auf Schloss Friedenstein in Gotha den Landgrafen Ludwig VI. von Hessen-Darmstadt (1630–1678).
