Windward School is an independent school in the Mar Vista neighborhood of Los Angeles, California, accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. It was founded by writer/teacher Shirley Windward in 1971.
Windward School was founded in 1971 to provide a dynamic education in a nurturing community for co-ed students in Grades 7-12 in Los Angeles. The School is named for Shirley Windward, who used her public school system pension to open the college preparatory school.

Windward School is a dynamic college-preparatory school that challenges each student to achieve excellence in a nurturing, inclusive community. Windward School graduates are critical thinkers, effective communicators, resilient problem-solvers, inclusive leaders, and ethically and culturally responsible citizens.
