Lord Mountbatten was born at King's College Hospital in London as the eldest son of Patricia Knatchbull, née Mountbatten, later 2nd Countess Mountbatten of Burma, and John Knatchbull, 7th Baron Brabourne. Mountbatten was educated at the Dragon School, in Oxford, and Gordonstoun School, Elgin, Moray, Scotland.
