On September 12, St. John’s announced a new philanthropy-centered financial model and tuition for undergraduate students was reduced from more than $52,000 to $35,000 beginning with the 2019–20 academic year. St. John’s launched a $300-million capital campaign, Freeing Minds, and was described as “The Most Contrarian College in America” by the New York Times columnist Frank Bruni.

St. John’s is a coeducational, liberal arts college with no religious affiliation. The college was founded in 1696 as King William’s School and chartered in 1784 as St. John’s College in Annapolis, Maryland. A second campus opened in 1964 in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The college’s first graduate program was founded in 1967 in Santa Fe.
In fact, St. John’s has been test optional for over 40 years. The heart of the St. John’s application is also the heart of the college: great books and great discussion. As a result, the Admissions Committee will get to know you through admission essays and interviews. There is no application fee at St. John’s.
