Tradition und Wandel einer Eliteschule (1994), which is the most recent history of Schulpforta – though see also Citation Heyer's Aus der Geschichte der Landesschule zur Pforta (1943), and Citation Arnhardt's Schulpforte – eine Schule im Zeichen der humanistischen Bildungstradition (1988).
While at Schulpforta, Nietzsche pursued subjects that were considered unbecoming. He became acquainted with the work of the then almost-unknown poet Friedrich Hölderlin, calling him "my favorite poet" and writing an essay in which he said that the poet raised consciousness to "the most sublime ideality".
