John Bennett Perry ist der einzige Sohn des Bankdirektors Alton Lawrence Ulric Perry (1906–2003) und dessen Frau Maria Schaefer Bennett (1906–1971) und wuchs in Williamstown im US-Bundesstaat Massachusetts auf. In 1998, John appeared on his son's hit sitcom "Friends." He didn't play Chandler's dad, but he did play a parent.
