Dorothea (Stewart) Stewart Countess of Gowrie is Notable. Dorothea Stewart was the daughter of Henry Stewart, 1st Lord Methven and his second wife Janet Stewart. She was born before their marriage but was legitimated in 1551. [1] Dorthea was born about 1596. She passed away about 1673.

He was a son of Andrew Stewart, 1st Lord Avondale, and his wife Margaret Kennedy. His brother was Andrew Stewart, 1st Lord Ochiltree. Henry was a fifth-generation male-line descendant of Murdoch Stewart, 2nd Duke of Albany, through his son Walter. He was thus a fourth cousin, twice removed of James IV of Scotland, first husband of Margaret Tudor .
Dorothea Stewart of Avondale (c. 1543 - 1607) was a daughter of Henry Stewart, 1st Lord of Methven and Janet Stewart, Countess Dowager of Sutherland. She was the first wife of William Ruthven, 1st Earl of Gowrie. Following the execution of Ruthven for treason in 1584, Lady Dorothea was obliged to surrender Dirleton Castle to James VI.
