Following in the footsteps of actor father Joel, McCrea had roles in Hell Bent For Glory (1958) and The Restless Years (1958) but is best known for starring in Beach Party (1963) and five other similarly themed tales. Later films include The Glory Stompers (1968) and Cry Blood, Apache (1970).
