Francois Pienaar then retired from the game in 2000, when he took up a role as the CEO of Saracens. However, he stood down from the role in 2002. Although he remains a director of Saracens, he’s now returned to South Africa and regularly works as a pundit.
Francois Pienaar is a quite remarkable figure in world rugby. Captain of his country on his debut, he went on to win more than 30 caps for South Africa before becoming one of rugby's great statesmen. Pienaar describes vividly how he captained his country to the 1995 World Cup and, with the help of Nelson Mandela, reversed the tarnished image of South African rugby.
