With a history spanning almost seven centuries, Oriel is the fifth-oldest Oxford college. It has transformed from its foundation as a small college of ten Fellows with a focus on just three academic subjects to an institution that is home to almost fifty Fellows and 500 students studying more than thirty subjects across the sciences, social sciences and humanities.

Oriel College is a medieval college within the University of Oxford. Located in the High Street in the very centre of Oxford, the college is one of the oldest in the University (founded in 1326). Notable alumni include the historian A.J.P. Taylor, former Archbishop of Canterbury Thomas Arundel, Sir Walter Raleigh, Thomas More and John Henry Newman.

Oriel is home to around 300 undergraduate students from all over the world who study 31 different subjects across the sciences, social sciences and humanities. The undergraduate community at Oriel is friendly and close-knit and Oriel’s Junior Common Room (JCR) organises frequent events in College to help strike that all-important balance between work and play.
Oriel provides strong and experienced tutorial support in each of the three traditional branches of chemistry: organic, inorganic and physical.
