Ya figura como Anna Karina en un cortometraje, Pigin og skoene (Ib, Schedes, 1959), que protagonizó durante un regreso a Dinamarca. En su segunda visita a Francia, respondiendo a un anuncio insertado en la prensa — por el que Godard buscaba una protagonista para Al final de la escapada (1960) —, la joven danesa conoció a su futuro marido.
