Nottingham was the son of Heneage Finch (later the first earl of Nottingham and Lord Chancellor of England) and Elizabeth Harvey, daughter of Daniel Harvey.[1]

A Tory politician, the sober Lord Nottingham was the chief standard-bearer of ‘high-church’ politics during the reigns of William III and Anne.
