Sutherland-Leveson-Gower was born at Portland Place, London, on 8 August 1786, and baptised at St Marylebone Parish Church. He was the eldest son of George Leveson-Gower, 1st Duke of Sutherland , and his wife Elizabeth Sutherland , suo jure Countess of Sutherland.

Elizabeth Leveson-Gower, Countess of Sutherland, was born at Leven Lodge, near Edinburgh, on 24 May 1765, the daughter of William Sutherland, eighteenth earl of Sutherland (1735-66) and Mary Sutherland, née Maxwell (c.1740-1766).

Elizabeth Sutherland Leveson-Gower, Duchess of Sutherland (née Sutherland; 24 May 1765 – 29 January 1839), also suo jure 19th Countess of Sutherland, was a Scottish noblewoman who married into the Leveson-Gower family, best remembered for her involvement in the Highland Clearances.
