The German poet Peter Hacks presented his play “ Gespräch im Hause Stein über den abwesenden Herrn von Goethe ” ( A Discussion in the Stein Home about the Absent Mr. Goethe ) in 1974.

Charlotte von Stein (1742-1827) Geboren wurde Charlotte Albertine Ernestine von Schardt am 25.12.1742 in Eisenach als älteste Tochter des Weimarschen Hofmarschalls Johann Christian Wilhelm von Schardt. Im Elternhaus wurde Charlotte streng protestantisch erzogen. Als Hofdame von Herzogin Anna Amalia fand sie 1758 eine Anstellung am Hofe zu Weimar.
