Commander of the Azov Flotilla, Rear Admiral Alexei Senyavin, was far from always pleased with the unduly wilful actions of his subordinate, but he had a high regard for his services all the same.
A man of unbridled courage, Scotsman Alexander Leslie was one of the most prominent mercenaries of the 17th century. He enlisted for Russian service three times: in 1618, 1630 and 1647.

Alexei Naumovich Senyavin (también escrito Sinyavin ) ( ruso : Алексей Наумович Сенявин ) (5 de octubre de 1716 - 10 de agosto de 1797) fue un almirante de la Armada Imperial Rusa , hijo de Naum Senyavin .
Alexei Senyavin managed to build a flotilla by 1771 and then sent it to Taganrog to assist the Russian troops in occupying the Crimea. In 1773, he was put in charge of this flotilla and succeeded in fighting off the Turks at sea, finally blocking their access to the Sea of Azov by capturing Yenikale and Kerch .
