Elizabeth Charlotte of the Palatinate was an Electress consort of Brandenburg as the wife of George William, Elector of Brandenburg and Duke of Prussia, and the mother of Frederick William of Brandenburg, the "Great Elector".
When Elisabeth Charlotte’s last brother died, he went up against an alliance of other European countries for control of the Palatinate (among other things). This brutal conflict became known as the Nine Years’ War— and it had absolutely disastrous results.
Elizabeth-Charlotte of Bavaria, often referred to as “Liselotte” or “La Palatine”, was a German princess of Protestant upbringing. In 1671 she married Monsieur, the King’s brother, and was obliged to convert to Catholicism. She took up residence in the Court and became an astute observer of goings-on at the palace.

Elisabeth Charlotte (1652–1722), more commonly known as Liselotte von der Pfalz, remains one of the most famous Palatine figures. As the daughter of Prince-Elector Karl I Ludwig of the House of Pfalz-Simmern, she spent part of her childhood at Heidelberg Palace.
