The evidence outlined above presents Gagik Arcruni witnessing a legal transaction in Siwnik‘ three years after the death of his elder brother Ašot, in November 903, and two years before he obtained the title of king, probably in 908. This however is not the only evidence for contemporary legal culture in Vaspurakan.
Gagik II (Armenian: Գագիկ Բ; c. 1025 - May 5/November 24, 1079) was the last Armenian king of the Bagratuni dynasty, ruling in Ani from 1042 to 1045. In 908, soon after the establishment of the Bagratids’ royal dynasty, Gagik Arcruni was crowned as king of Vaspurakan.6 It is noteworthy that the historians of the Arcruni family call Gagik “king of all Armenia”7 rather than king of Vaspurakan, revealing his greater royal ambitions.
