  5. Browne served as a Liberal Member of Parliament for Mayo in Ireland from 1857 to 1868. He had previously served as an officer of the Royal Navy . In 1896, Browne became Marquess of Sligo on the death of his elder brother, the 3rd Marquess, also inheriting some 114,900 acres (465 km 2 ) of land and the family seat at Westport House , Westport , County Mayo .   6. Hester Catherine de Burgh, 2nd Marchioness of Sligo (1800-1878) On 4 March 1816, Browne married the 16-year-old Hester Catherine, daughter of John de Burgh, 13th Earl of Clanricarde. His mother is said to have remarked that "the most remarkable likeness to Pauline that I ever saw". [2] The couple had 14 children between 1817 and 1839.
